Cela commence dans une scénographie en noir et blanc : le danseur, sur son piédestal tournant, s’offre immobile au regard du public. Droit dans ses bottes, exposé dans toute sa raideur, il tournoie, secondé par le son du métronome installé par le musicien Jean-Baptiste Julien. Inspiré par les représentations du corps porté par les régimes totalitaires, que l’on trouve aussi bien dans les grands défilés que dans la peinture ou la photographie, Rachid Ouramdane endosse les états de corps contraints par les idéologies et tente d’y trouver son propre souffle. Suivant le modèle d’esthétiques officielles, il creuse son corps glorieux, chorégraphie bras et jambes dans le rythme et la saccade d’une énergie martiale.
Un corps pétri par les idéologies
Ce solo est en réalité une collaboration active avec le musicien, présent sur scène et répondant au propos par un grondement, comme la clameur d’une foule ou une fureur naissante. Peu à peu, le corps du danseur se permet plus de liberté, à mesure que la couleur fait son apparition sur le plateau. Parfois perdu dans une scénographie brouillonne, le regard du spectateur accroche davantage les portraits du danseur en dictateur, revêtant sur sa peau même les couleurs d’une identité nationale fantasmée. Exposition universelle, malgré un propos volontairement politique, n’a cependant pas la portée d’un précédent solo comme Loin, ou la puissance de Des Témoins ordinaires.
