Si on l’entend surtout à Paris dans des programmes symphoniques, le patron de l’Orchestre National de France, Daniele Gatti, est aussi un chef d’opéra. Il est d’ailleurs depuis septembre dernier en fonction à l’Opéra de Zürich, après avoir dirigé au Covent Garden de Londres de 1994 à 1997 et au Teatro Comunale de Bologne de 1997 à 2007. Parmi ses répertoires de prédilection figure incontestablement l’opéra italien. On se réjouit donc de le voir à la tête du « National » dans Falstaff de Verdi. Basé sur Les Joyeuses Commères de Windsor de Shakespeare, le dernier opéra du compositeur italien est un modèle de fusion entre le théâtre et la musique, jusqu’à la célèbre et irrésistible fugue finale. La mise en scène sera assurée par Mario Martone, un cinéaste napolitain. Dans le casting, on jubile d’avance à l’idée de retrouver Anthony Michaels-Moore dans le rôle-titre, Anna Caterina Antonacci en Alice Ford et Marie-Nicole Lemieux en Mrs Quickly.
