« Cette montée, cette marée d’adoration et de désir… » : comme beaucoup d’autres, François Mauriac a exprimé son admiration pour la mythique Greta Garbo. Aujourd’hui, le phénomène des fans s’est démultiplié et a redoublé d’intensité, la culture de masse et l’omniprésence des médias et nouvelles technologies exposant aux yeux de tous les nouveaux dieux starisés de l’Olympe contemporaine, de Cloclo à Michael Jackson… Nouvelles idoles, nouveaux cultes. « Qui a dit froide la modernité ? L’imagination et le sentiment l’investissent si puissamment qu’on s’interroge sur les frontières du sacré et du profane » soulignent Dominique Jacquot et Marie-Anne Jamaux, qui ont créé ce spectacle à partir de sources authentiques et mettent en présence trois archétypes de fans au cours d’un jeu orchestré par un présentateur, sorte de Monsieur Loyal et bouffon, où chaque concurrent – une lycéenne, un homme et une femme – doit témoigner de sa passion au fil d’épreuves diverses. Le jeu nous tend un miroir impitoyable et drôle d’un comportement absolutiste, souvent d’une ardeur désespérée. La pièce est le dernier volet d’une trilogie consacrée aux écritures non théâtrales.
