On ne connaît vraiment – et depuis peu – qu’un faible nombre parmi la quarantaine d’opéras que composa Vivaldi. Pour Farnace, composé entre 1737 et 1738, ce n’est guère étonnant. Avant son enregistrement récent (et acclamé) chez Virgin Classics, l’œuvre n’avait tout simplement jamais été donnée, retirée de l’affiche avant sa création, victime de l’insuccès du précédent opéra du compositeur, Siroe (sur le livret de Métastase qu’utilisa Haendel). Le chef Diego Fasolis, directeur artistique de l’ensemble I Barocchisti, s’est attaché à reconstituer la partition à l’occasion de l’enregistrement, dont ce concert donne un proche écho : la distribution y est légèrement remaniée mais on retrouve, et c’est bien l’essentiel, le contre-ténor Max Emanuel Cencic, la sensation du moment parmi les voix baroques.
