Après Attendance et Play, SPACE est le troisième et dernier opus de Thank you for coming (merci d’être venu), une trilogie de la chorégraphe américaine Faye Driscoll, qui s’intéresse à l’excès, l’émotivité, et les aspects les plus chaotiques de l’être humain. Dans ce solo à la fois performance et installation, tant l’espace est retravaillé par un dispositif de câbles et de poulies, de pains de béton et d’objets incongrus, Driscoll se livre à d’étranges rituels, une sorte de requiem des temps modernes, au milieu d’un public qui l’enserre de sa présence. S’appuyant sur les contacts qu’elle entretient avec cette audience, elle interroge cette peur du vide constitutive de la création comme de l’être. Emplissant l’espace d’éléments divers, de gestes désordonnés, de cris, d’une bande-son orageuse, écrasant le sol de ses pas ou s’abandonnant au bon vouloir des spectateurs, tour à tour agressive ou fragile, Faye Driscoll nous parle de deuil, cette présence absente qui nous prend aux tripes.
