C’est devenu un classique rendez-vous pour tous les disciples de Fela Kuti, décédé en 1997 : à l’initiative de sa fille aînée Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti, la Felabration rend hommage au séminal géniteur de l’afrobeat. Soit une semaine qui célèbre son message en musique mais aussi à travers des débats rappelle l’ancrage politique de celui pour qui la musique était potentiellement l’arme du futur. Basées au New Africa Shrine, le nouveau temple de l’afro-beat de Lagos, les festivités résonnent à travers toute la planète. Comme à Montreuil où depuis 2017 la Marbrerie convoque des combos qui s’inspirent de cette formule tellurique. Cette année, place au London Afrobeat Collective, pour un show qu’on espère bouillant suivi d’un afterparty avec en DJ les régionaux de l’étape, Happy Milf Records. De quoi se mettre en jambes avant la grande exposition intitulée Rébellion Afrobeat, qui débute moins d’une semaine plus tard à la Cité de la Musique.
