On pourrait imaginer d’écrire une thèse sur les personnages féminins de Tchekhov et ainsi étudier leurs différences et leurs points communs. Un tel travail aurait le mérite de resituer les figures dans leur contexte et de les présenter avant que d’élucider leurs postures existentielles, leur langueur, leur humour, leurs rêves et leurs combats. C’est peut-être ce qui manque au projet de Catherine Aymerie qui ne peut véritablement présenter d’intérêt que pour des spécialistes, capables de reconnaître les femmes dans les rôles desquelles la comédienne se glisse et donc d’autant mieux apprécier la qualité chromatique de son jeu. En effet, pour qui ne connaît pas son Tchekhov par cœur et n’est pas capable de distinguer Irina, Lioubov Andréevna, Sonia, Anna Pétrovna et les autres, l’exercice demeure excessivement formel et d’un intérêt très limité. On se perd entre les tirades privées d’adresse. De ne pas comprendre à qui parle ces femmes lumineuses et blessées assourdit quelque peu l’intensité de leurs mots. Un tel sentiment d’extériorité laisse désemparé, d’autant que l’évidente ferveur avec laquelle Catherine Aymerie incarne ces héroïnes pour lesquelles elle avoue une passion intense ne laisse pas d’espérer les aimer comme elle les aime et les défend…
Un spectacle exigeant mais abscons
Sur l’espace vide de la scène joliment animée par les lumières de Jean-Louis Martineau et la bande sonore de Dragan Nedeljkovic, la comédienne déploie ses effets en jouant d’un costume transformable et de poses savamment adaptées en fonction des personnages incarnés. Son visage à la belle mobilité et son corps souple passent de scène en scène, extraites d’Oncle Vania, de La Mouette, de La Cerisaie, de Platonov, des Trois Sœurs et animent avec fluidité ce florilège élégamment composé. Toujours est-il que Catherine Aymerie ne parvient pas vraiment à laisser embarquer le spectateur dans ce voyage imaginaire de beige et d’or. Ne pourront véritablement goûter aux joies de cette excursion théâtrale que ceux qui, comme son guide, sont familiers et dévots de l’œuvre magistrale d’Anton Tchekhov…
