La musique est peut-être de tous les arts celui qui ouvre le plus de voies vers l’utopie. Partant de cette hypothèse, le festival Agora croise les expériences de compositeurs d’aujourd’hui pour cerner quels mondes nouveaux peuvent construire les sons. L’œuvre d’Edgar Varèse, véritable pionnier de terres sonores nouvelles, est placée en exergue à cette édition : le concert d’ouverture par l’Ensemble Intercontemporain rassemble son Poème électronique et Intégrales pour vents et percussions, accolés à Ius Lucis pour deux ensembles séparés (dans deux salles différentes !) et synchronisés du jeune Valerio Sannicandro – qui invente ainsi une musique ubiquiste. La spatialisation de la musique est depuis longtemps au cœur de la réflexion de l’Ircam. Agora rappelle quelques moments de cette quête d’un espace devenant tout entier musique avec Hymnen (1967), magnifiques tableaux électroniques de Karlheinz Stockhausen (présenté le 8 juin avec une scénographie de Gérard Fromanger) ou Lichtung II et III (en création) d’Emmanuel Nunes (15 juin). Autre fil rouge du festival, l’exotisme, l’ailleurs musical – avec un net penchant pour l’orient – sera notamment illustré le 7 juin au Musée du Quai Branly, par Exotica, œuvre pour soixante percussions de Mauricio Kagel.
