Fondé en 1992 par le compositeur et chef d’orchestre Daniel Tosi, le festival des créations sonores de Perpignan a su rester fidèle à son ambition initiale : présenter une programmation originale, avant-gardiste et séduisante. Témoin et acteur de la création musicale d’aujourd’hui, le festival renouvelle les formes de diffusion de la musique contemporaine. Résolument pluridisciplinaire et multimédia, Aujourd’hui Musiques est un festival qui ose. Depuis toujours, il s’appuie sur des artistes passeurs et curieux, qui lui sont pour beaucoup restés fidèles. Le festival s’ouvre ainsi cette année avec le multi-instrumentiste Michel Portal (saxophone, clarinette, bandonéon) et le percussionniste et compositeur Roland Auzet, homme de spectacle autant que musicien, autour de la musique de Pierre Jodlowski, jeune compositeur né en 1971, lui aussi créateur de formes (en témoigne, par exemple, son opéra radiophonique Jour 54, d’après Georges Perec).
Au croisement des arts de la représentation
Les propositions d’Aujourd’hui Musiques investissent les croisements des arts de la représentation – et ce n’est pas, ici, qu’un slogan. Compositeur et homme de radio, Bruno Letort s’empare de l’instrument vidéo pour sa création Après le tremblement de terre (8 novembre, au côté d’autres œuvres avec électronique de Karlheinz Stockhausen, Martin Matalon et Jakub Sarwas). L’électronique, instrument de prédilection de Daniel Tosi, est à la jointure de nombreux spectacles, tels ceux que propose Christophe Ruetsch : Le Vilain Petit Canard d’après Andersen, conte pour enfants et théâtre d’objets et de marionnettes, et Atomic Radio 137 Live, performance et carnet de voyage du compositeur à Tchernobyl. La danse contemporaine, et la musique qui l’accompagne au plus près, marquent également cette édition avec la Compagnie Atta (musiques de Steve Reich, Thierry de Mey, Pierre Jodlowski…) et la Compagnie Mossoux-Bonté (musiques de Giacinto Scelsi et Giya Kancheli interprétées par l’excellent ensemble Musiques nouvelles de Jean-Paul Dessy). Le festival rend par ailleurs hommage à Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001) avec notamment l’interprétation de L’Orestie, d’après Eschyle,pour chœur d’enfants, chœur mixte jouant d’accessoires musicaux, et 14 musiciens (6 novembre).
