Depuis trois ans, le Festival d’Aix vit au rythme de la Tétralogie wagnérienne. Le metteur en scène Stéphane Braunschweig et le chef Simon Rattle conduisent cette année leur production du Ring des Nibelungen à son aboutissement avec Le Crépuscule des Dieux. L’an dernier, la presse avait rapporté en écho l’enthousiasme du public pour un Siegfried « irrésistible », voire « d’anthologie ». Ben Heppner, qui faisait l’an dernier à Aix ses débuts en Siegfried, reprend cette année ce personnage qu’il a déjà fait sien, au côté de la Brünnhilde de Katarina Dalayman, avec l’Orchestre philharmonique de Berlin bien sûr, toujours dans la fosse du Grand Théâtre de Provence. En contrepoint, Aix accueille trois autres opéras, dont deux de Mozart : une nouvelle production d’Idoménée au Théâtre de l’Archevêché, mise en scène par Olivier Py et dirigée par Marc Minkowski, et une Flûte enchantée venue de La Monnaie de Bruxelles dirigée par René Jacobs au Grand Théâtre. Avec Orphée aux enfers d’Offenbach, mis en scène par Yves Beaunesne (direction Alain Altinoglu), c’est un regard sur la mythologie bien différent de celui de Wagner que propose malicieusement le festival.
