Tour à tour directeur d’école de musique en banlieue parisienne, producteur radio et professeur au Conservatoire supérieur, Gérard Pesson ne correspond pas à la représentation habituelle du compositeur. Son langage se révèle tout aussi détonnant que son itinéraire. Le concert donné dans le cadre du Festival d’Automne programme deux de ses œuvres symphoniques. Aggravations et final est une démonstration virtuose du sentiment de vertige, tandis que Wunderblock (avec, en soliste, l’accordéoniste Teodoro Anzellotti) s’inspire de la Sixième Symphonie de Bruckner. Même s’il aime retravailler à partir des œuvres du passé, il serait simpliste de ranger Pesson dans la catégorie des post-modernes. Ce qui est sûr, c’est qu’il arrive brillamment à capter la fragilité de l’air du temps. L’Orchestre de la Radio de Cologne, dirigé par Brad Lubman, poursuit le concert avec Photoptosis de Bernd-Alois Zimmermann, conçu d’après des monochromes d’Yves Klein, et avec Antikhton de Iannis Xenakis, prévu pour un ballet de Balanchine.
