Perché sur les hauts plateaux du Livradois-Forez, le paisible et isolé village de La Chaise-Dieu se transforme chaque été depuis presque 50 ans en spot musical d’excellence. La magnifique Abbatiale Saint-Robert, reconstruite au XIVè siècle (sur les lieux d’un édifice originel construit au XIè siècle) par un ancien moine de La Chaise-Dieu qui deviendra Pape en Avignon sous le nom de Clément VI, accueille la plupart des concerts. « Cette 49e édition propose 30 concerts organisés autour de deux thématiques principales. La première rend hommage au génie de Bach, Haendel et Scarlatti, tous trois nés en 1685. Le second fil conducteur poursuit et achève l’intégrale des symphonies de Beethoven initiée l’an dernier, avec de grandes phalanges comme l’Orchestre national de Lille ou l’Orchestre philharmonique royal des Flandres » explique Julien Caron, le très jeune directeur général du festival qui s’attache à apporter une vitalité nouvelle à une manifestation qui célèbrera en 2016 son Jubilé. A noter aussi : deux grands oratorios prometteurs, Un Requiem allemand de Brahms et les Vêpres solennelles de Mozart, qui devraient prendre sous les voûtes de la fascinante Abbatiale une dimension spirituelle rare.
