« Vivre dans la confrontation et la pluralité des idées et des cultures, c’est se situer tout naturellement dans l’héritage de cette mer Méditerranée chère à Fernand Braudel, Albert Camus, Louis Brauquier, mais c’est aussi le questionner sans complaisance pour répondre à des interrogations actuelles. Penser la modernité à la lumière du Sud… ». C’est ainsi qu’Apolline Quintrand, directrice du festival de Marseille, trace la ligne d’horizon. Et voilà treize ans maintenant que des artistes venus d’ici et là composent les couleurs cosmopolites de ce rendez-vous transnational et transdisciplinaire. La danse, mais aussi le théâtre, la musique, les arts plastiques et le cinéma y mélangent leurs nuances, y frottent leurs différences. Pour ouvrir l’édition 2008, les Danois de Hotel pro forma investissent le Hangar 15, nouveau lieu du festival arrimé au cœur du Port autonome. Ils présentent une étourdissante Operation Orfeo, qui condense le mythe d’Orphée en un saisissant précipité d’images. Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker prendra le relais avec deux œuvres majeures, Fase et Zeitung, suivie d’Emio Greco et Pieter C. Scholten, qui présentent Hell, fascinante traversée de l’Enfer de Dante. Puis viendra Michael Clark, prodige de la décennie 80 aux excentricités légendaires, et son Stravinsky Project, qui cogne la chaste rigueur des lignes classiques et le frisson de la musique punk. Radicalement phénoménal.
Traversées insolites
De la danse encore, mais plus intime avec les délicates visions de Karine Ponties, ou plus vénéneuse avec Teodora Castellucci, ou encore carrément engagée avec T.R.A.S.H. Au passage, un petit détour par la Tchéquie, avec Jaroslav Vi arsk, Chaloupková Dagmar et Dora Ho tová, trois jeunes artistes à découvrir. Echappant à la discipline des étiquettes, les Allemands de Nico and the navigators taillent le motif de l’amitié à même la fantaisie et l’émotion avec un singulier Bien que je te connaisse. Venu d’Allemagne également, Rimini Protokoll embarque une poignée de spectateurs dans son camion pour un voyage insolite au nom de code tout aussi mystérieux : Cargo Sofia-Marseille. Les danseurs d’Ex-Nihilo entreprennent eux aussi un Trajet vie à travers l’espace urbain, tandis qu’Hubert Colas frotte au sang les cailloux rêches de la langue légionnaire avec Mon képi blanc, de Sonia Chiambetto. Cet échantillon prélevé au fil des pages montre ainsi une programmation riche, variée, donc pleine de nuances.
