Depuis cinq ans, le chef d’orchestre Paul-Emmanuel Thomas concocte, en tant que directeur artistique du festival de Menton, une programmation qui met l’accent sur « Les grands interprètes ». C’est d’ailleurs l’intitulé de la série des 10 concerts de 21h30 qui ont lieu sur le parvis de la Basilique Saint-Michel Archange. Cet été, se succéderont les pianistes Fazil Say, Christian Zacharias, Nelson Freire, la mezzo Marie-Nicole Lemieux le violoniste Renaud Capuçon, le quatuor Hagen… A l’occasion des 450 ans de la naissance de Monteverdi, on note une nouveauté : l’accueil d’un opéra baroque, Le Couronnement de Poppée, en version de concert par l’ensemble Matheus sous la direction de Jean-Christophe Spinosi. S’ajoutent à cela les concerts de 18h au Musée Cocteau auxquels participent par exemple Kit Armstrong ou le trio Busch, tandis que le Off en entrée libre accueille des formations originales comme le quintette vocal Apollo 5, des conférences, flash-mobs, jeux vidéo…
