Vient-on au festival de Menton pour les grands interprètes ou pour l’ambiance magique du Parvis de la Basilique Saint-Michel Archange ? Sans doute pour les deux. Et plus encore car le festival de musique de Menton, ce sont aussi les propositions de concerts au musée Jean Cocteau et le festival Off marqué par des concerts, conférences, visites guidées, master classes et flash-mob. Dès le 28 juillet, le contre-ténor Philippe Jaroussky, la soprano Emöke Baràth et l’Ensemble Artaserse donnent le coup d’envoi de cette 69e édition avec un récital d’ouverture faisant la part belle aux héros et héroïnes des opéras de Haendel. Purcell est aussi à l’honneur avec une représentation de Didon et Enée interprété par la mezzo Eva Zaïcik (qui vient d’arriver en finale du Concours Reine Elisabeth de Belgique) et Christophe Rousset. Le piano se fait romantique avec un programme Chopin, Schumann, Wagner et Liszt donné par Bertrand Chamayou, ou baroque avec Vikingur Olafsson dans des pièces de Bach et Rameau. En musique de chambre se distinguent Nicholas Angelich et Daniel Müller-Schott dans des duos violoncelle-piano ou la violoniste Isabelle Faust « and friends ». Le jazz n’est pas en reste avec le Yaron Herman Trio qui clôture le festival.
