Cela fait déjà 70 ans que le Hongrois André Böröcz a fondé le festival de musique de Menton, inspiré par le parvis de la Basilique Saint-Michel qu’il découvrait à l’occasion d’une flânerie estivale pendant que le violon de Jasha Heifetz s’échappait d’un poste de radio posé sur le rebord d’une fenêtre. Depuis, le festival s’est imposé comme un des rendez-vous incontournables de la musique classique. Son directeur, Paul-Emmanuel Thomas, a à cœur d’inviter de grands interprètes, les fidèles comme Renaud Capuçon ou Fazil Say, les « nouveaux » comme Jordi Savall qui ouvre le festival avec un concert consacré aux éléments (Locke, Vivaldi, Rebel, Marais, Telemann, Rameau), ou encore les jeunes talents comme la pianiste Beatrice Rana ou la violoniste Alexandra Conunova. Parmi les concerts marquants, on note la Carte blanche de Bertrand Chamayou, la présence d’Emmanuel Pahud et ses amis de la Philharmonie de Berlin, le récital de Patricia Petibon, celui des trois contre-ténors Carlo Vistoli, Justin Kim et Jake Arditti, et la première Nuit du piano.
