René Koering, le charismatique directeur du Festival de Montpellier, n’a pas son pareil pour dénicher des œuvres tombées dans l’oubli. Cette année sera ainsi exhumé Les Hauts de Hurlevent, un opéra composé par Bernard Herrmann (le compositeur fétiche d’Hitchcock) d’après le célèbre roman d’Emily Brontë (le 14 juillet), mais aussi L’Etranger de Vincent D’Indy, donné en… création (le 26 juillet) ! Les amateurs de musique baroque ne manqueront pas Artemisia de Cavalli par l’ensemble La Venexiana (le 24 juillet) et surtout Piramo e Tisbe de Hasse, une redécouverte que l’on doit au violoniste et chef Fabio Biondi (22 juillet). Outre ces œuvres rares, le Festival de Montpellier nous fait aussi découvrir des interprètes, notamment lors des concerts « Jeunes solistes », tous les jours à 12h30, dont l’entrée est libre. Deux pianistes sont très attendus : Olivier Moulin (le 20 juillet) et Guillaume Coppola (le 26 juillet). L’autre rendez-vous traditionnel, ce sont les concerts de 18h, où se produira notamment la pianiste américaine Simone Dinnerstein, qui nous a offert au disque l’une des versions les plus passionnantes et les plus personnelles qui soient des Variations Goldberg de Bach (le 23 juillet). Vous l’aurez compris : à l’heure où tant de festivals se contentent d’inviter des formations en tournée, la manifestation montpelliéraine est plus que jamais salutaire.
