Pour Olivier Desbordes, fondateur et directeur du Festival de Saint-Céré, pas de doute, l’opéra c’est la vie. Et « le monde est une farce ! » lui répond Falstaff dans l’opéra de Verdi, d’après Shakespeare, qu’il présente cet été. La farce, la comédie et plus généralement le rire comme moyens assumés de porter un regard sur le monde : c’est la leçon d’Offenbach, dont Olivier Desbordes met aussi en scène La Périchole, joyeux divertissement certes, mais aussi miroir du pouvoir et de ses vanités. La musique alors peut s’adresser à tous, qu’elle prenne des allures de cabaret (Kurt Weill et Bertolt Brecht), de fable sur tréteaux (Histoire du soldat de Stravinsky et Ramuz), voire d’oratorio (la Passion selon Saint Jean de Bach). Faisant toujours une large place aux musiques d’ailleurs et aux jeunes interprètes, le Festival de Saint-Céré s’associe cette année au Festival de Théâtre de Figeac dirigé par Michel Fau pour revendiquer « un sourire offensif, revendiquant la liberté, utilisant l’ironie, la satire, la tendre moquerie, la bouffonnerie comme des armes contre les drapeaux noirs de l’ignorance ! ».
