Inauguré par Riccardo Muti, le plus prestigieux des festivals franciliens a, en réalité, débuté depuis quelques semaines sur son versant « Métis », décentralisé en Seine-Saint-Denis et dédié aux musiques du monde et à la chanson. Mais bientôt, la fascinante Basilique, « cimetière des Rois de France », reprendra son rôle central dans la programmation « classique » de la manifestation. Les hôtes fidèles de Saint-Denis seront naturellement au programme de cette (discrète) édition anniversaire : Kurt Masur et l’Orchestre National de France dans Mendelssohn, Christophe Rousset et ses Talens Lyriques dans le Stabat Mater de Pergolèse, John Nelson et l’EOP dans la Neuvième de Beethoven ou encore Pierre Boulez à la tête de l’Orchestre de Paris dans deux symphonies de Stravinski et la Messe Glagolitique de Janacek. A signaler enfin, la série des « Concerts-Lectures » de Patrice Chéreau qui invitera sa troupe de cœur composée, au fil des rendez-vous, de Valérie Bruni-Tedeschi, Isabelle Huppert, Marianne Faithfull, Pascal Gregory et Dominique Blanc. Un casting de rêve…
Concert d’ouverture
Pour inaugurer le Festival de Saint-Denis 2009, Riccardo Muti a réuni autour de l’Orchestre national de France une distribution prestigieuse : Barbara Frittoli, Olga Borodina, Ramon Vargas et Ildar Abdrazakov. Invité chaque année à diriger plusieurs programmes à la tête de l’Orchestre national de France, Riccardo Muti se partage de façon assez équitable entre répertoires français et italien – avec parfois quelques écarts russes. Il dirigeait ainsi en mars dernier un programme Berlioz, dont une extraordinaire Symphonie fantastique. Comme l’an dernier, le maestro préside à l’ouverture du Festival de Saint-Denis. Mais, alors que la basilique l’a accueilli le plus souvent pour des pages rarement entendues – telles celles de Porpora et Cherubini présentées l’an dernier – les deux soirées sont cette année consacrées au Requiem de Verdi. Retrouver cette œuvre gigantesque était toujours un plaisir du temps où Carlo Maria Giulini la dirigeait avec l’Orchestre de Paris. Ce ne devrait pas moins l’être avec cet autre ex-directeur musical de la Scala de Milan.
