Le festival se veut ainsi le point de passage vers les mondes imaginaires, inspirés par les mythes ou la religion. L’Ensemble Dialogos (à Champeaux, le 24 septembre) s’empare ainsi du mythe du Chevalier de Tondal visitant les enfers (xiie siècle) pour revisiter le répertoire médiéval de l’Italie et de la Dalmatie (chants grégoriens, glagolitiques ou bénéventains). Autre mythe, celui de Faust, mis en musique par Liszt dans la Faust-Symphonie que Paul Mann dirige à la tête de l’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France (le 8 octobre à L’Onde à Vélizy). À la frontière de la légende et du sacré, le Chœur national d’hommes d’Estonie chante les œuvres d’Arvo Pärt et Veljo Tormis, qui revisite la tradition sacrée occidentale (le style néo-grégorien d’Arvo Pärt) en la confrontant à la saga du Kalevala, référence obligée des compositeurs finlandais et estoniens (7 octobre, église Saint-Eustache à Paris). À noter également : l’évocation de la « Citée rêvée » des Saint-Simoniens par l’ensemble Les Lunaisiens (Port-Royal, le 11 septembre), la Cantate pour le Prince de Cöthen de Bach par l’ensemble Pygmalion (Taverny, 17 septembre) ou l’hommage à Borges, homme des mondes labyrinthiques, composé par Martin Matalon avec le plasticien Marko Echeverria (création par l’ensemble Ars Nova, le 6 octobre au Conservatoire d’art dramatique, voir notre entretien avec Martin Matalon dans cette rubrique).
