Pour s’installer dans le cœur du public et s’incarner comme un véritable événement, un festival a d’abord besoin de s’identifier à un lieu. Le terrain de jeu de cette manifestation créée en 2001 est un quartier entier, celui de Saint-Germain-des-Prés, site historique de l’éclosion du jazz en Europe, en particulier dans ses lieux mythiques que furent le Tabou ou le Club Saint-Germain, disparus aujourd’hui, où jouèrent les plus grands musiciens de l’après-guerre. Le Festival Jazz à Saint-Germain-des-Prés s’empare d’autres lieux de concerts, souvent prestigieux (l‘Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés, l‘Église Saint-Sulpice, le Théâtre de l’Odéon…) pour faire revivre et surtout prolonger ce passé prestigieux. De grands noms sont encore à l’affiche cette année, de Michel Portal à Ray Lema et de Jacky Terrasson à Stéphane Belmondo, avec aussi en invité d’honneur le pianiste et compositeur azerbaïdjanais Elchin Shirinov.
