Lieu de convivialité, de foule pressée ou papillonnante, de touristes en goguette ou de titis parigots, les Puces de Saint-Ouen recèlent plus d’un mythe. Et c’est au coeur de ces marchés bouillonnants que se donnent rendez-vous les aficionados du jazz manouche et de la chanson populaire. Pour sa cinquième édition, le festival des Puces, fondé en 2005 par Didier Lockwood et Serge Malik, donne ses rancards préférés : concerts et boeufs dans les ruelles et aux terrasses de cafés, grands concerts sur scène, concours jeunes talents, et la Guinche du dimanche soir pour clôturer les festivités en dansant.
Perpétrer la tradition du jazz et de la chanson à la française
Si le propos musical dépasse un peu le cadre du jazz manouche et de la chanson populaire, il s’agit bien, tout au long de la programmation, de cette filiation forte avec Django Reinhardt ou Fréhel. Romane, parrain de l’édition, en fait un challenge personnel : «A nous de trouver et passer l’âme de Django pour faire perdurer et évoluer la musique manouche. Et la musique tout court ! ». Pari relevé pour l’affiche 2009 qui compte une trentaine d’artistes : la nouvelle génération (Zaza Fournier, les Yeux d’la Tête, la jeune violoniste Fiona Monbet…) côtoie les monstres sacrés (Galliano, Rosenberg, Bireli Lagrène, Guy Marchand…), les guitares se mêlent aux voix, les fanfares frayent avec les solistes… Sons tziganes, musique festive, rythmiques gitanes, humour et simplicité : l’esprit manouche plane sur Saint-Ouen !
