C’est l’une des formations de musique de chambre les plus en vue du moment. Le Quatuor Ebène (Pierre Colombet : premier violon, Gabriel Le Magadure : second violon, Mathieu Herzog : alto, Raphaël Merlin : violoncelle) fête cette année ses dix ans d’existence. Un parcours déjà bien rempli, marqué notamment par le Prix du Concours de Munich (en 2004), des tournées dans le monde entier, et, tout récemment, la signature d’un contrat avec le label Virgin Classics. Pour autant, les Ebène ne se contentent pas de suivre la carrière académique d’un quatuor à cordes. Pour preuve, ils se lancent régulièrement dans de nouveaux répertoires (notamment le jazz, avec beaucoup de succès) et ont même décidé, il y a deux ans, de créer leur propre festival, intitulé « Les Chaises Musicales », en pleine campagne poitevine, autour de Vicq sur Gartempe. Le programme de cet été est pour le moins alléchant. Le 5 août, les Ebène se mêle à l’ensemble Contrastes pour jouer notamment des tangos de Piazzolla. Le lendemain, on retrouve notre quatuor à cordes dans un programme jazz avec le Trio de Yaron Herman et le clarinettiste Michel Portal. Le dernier concert s’annonce plus classique avec les œuvres pour clarinette et cordes de Mozart et Brahms (Portal et les Ebène). Notre seul regret : la durée du festival limitée à trois soirées…
