Si la formule – une alternance de productions lyriques et de concerts symphoniques – et le répertoire – les grandes fresques lyriques et le romantisme symphonique – sont bien rôdés, les Chorégies d’Orange demeurent un lieu où souffle le vent du renouveau. Pour s’en convaincre, il suffit de se pencher du côté des quatre chefs invités pour cette édition 2010 : quatre nouveaux venus dans le Théâtre antique, qui ne sont cependant pas à proprement parler des novices. Ainsi, c’est Mikko Franck qui devrait diriger la production de Tosca de Puccini mise en scène par Nadine Duffaut ; le finlandais trentenaire, qui a souvent dû renoncer à ses engagements ces dernières années pour raisons de santé, est l’un des plus puissants créateurs d’émotion actuels. L’autre production lyrique, Mireille de Gounod mise en scène par Robert Fortune, est confiée au chef Alain Altinoglu qui, à 34 ans, est déjà rompu aux répertoires les plus variés. Le festival accueille également Kwamé Ryan (né en 1970) à la tête de l’Orchestre national de Bordeaux-Aquitaine pour un concert Tchaïkovski et Giovanni Antonini qui accompagne Natalie Dessay et Juan Diego Florez.
