Le festival fondé par Pablo Casals fait naturellement, chaque année, une large place au violoncelle. Première à monter sur la scène de l’Abbaye Saint-Michel de Cuxà, le 30 juillet, la grande Natalia Gutman interprète Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach et Haydn aux côtés de l’Orchestre national de chambre de Toulouse. Pour le reste, la programmation se concentre sur la musique de chambre et Prades redevient comme chaque année le rendez-vous d’artistes fidèles : les violoncellistes François Salque, Arto Noras et Gary Hoffman, les pianistes Michael Levinas, Ralf Gothóni, Boris Berezovsky et Brigitte Engerer, les violonistes Gérard Poulet, Christian Altenburger et Svetlin Roussev, le Fine Arts Quartet et le Shanghai Quartet… sans oublier le clarinettiste Michel Lethiec, directeur artistique du festival, et les nombreux jeunes musiciens de l’Académie européenne de Prades. Essentiellement classique et romantique, la programmation s’autorise cependant des incartades vers les temps plus anciens (les concertos pour violons de Bach le 2 août) ou les œuvres d’aujourd’hui (avec la présence des compositeurs Krzytszof Penderecki et Marc-André Dalbavie).
