Ils viennent d’un Orient lointain, des rivages du Nord ou des terres du continent, des quatre coins de l’hexagone aussi… et se sont donné rendez-vous à Nanterre dans le centre ancien, au cœur du Parc des Anciennes-Mairies et dans les rues adjacentes. Aux prémisses de l’été, depuis 21 ans maintenant, une cinquantaine de compagnies débarque dans la ville et bariole le pavé aux couleurs vives de l’invention. « Nanterre est résolument engagée dans une politique de démocratisation de la culture. Nous travaillons depuis longtemps à ce que le plus grand nombre puisse accéder à la création contemporaine au plus près de chez soi, explique Mireille Odena, responsable artistique du festival. Les arts de la rue permettent l’appropriation par les habitants de leurs lieux de vie, offrant ainsi une nouvelle manière de vivre la ville. Ils sont donc un des éléments fédérateurs dans la construction du territoire. Soutien à la création, accueil en résidence autant que repérage et diffusion de spectacles… déclinent cet engagement en faveur des arts de la rue.
L’art comme rencontre
C’est par une grande fête que s’ouvrira la 21ème édition, avec un apéro circassien proposé par le Cirque no problem, la fanfare japonaise Hibi Chazz.K, Les Krilati, Son de los Diablos et son spectacle pyrotechnique de musique chorégraphié. Cette soirée prélude à un week-end bigrement créatif : durant deux jours vont en effet se donner quelque cent représentations. Théâtre, danse, musique, arts plastiques investiront tous coins et recoins pour toucher jusqu’au cœur des spectateurs.
