Quelle idée a donné naissance à Un automne à tisser ?
Jean-Claude Penchenat : L’initiative est venue du directeur du Théâtre de l’Epée de Bois, Antonio Diaz-Florian. Il a souhaité ouvrir son théâtre à une manifestation gérée par des jeunes compagnies. Des compagnies qui — dans l’esprit d’aventure et de compagnonnage des troupes ayant fait vivre la Cartoucherie à ses débuts — puissent prendre en charge ce théâtre pour donner vie à un événement fédérateur.
Stanislas Grassian : Cette notion de partage est fondamentale dans notre projet.Un automne à tisser est vraiment fondé sur notre volonté de travailler ensemble, de nous réunir pour créer. En tant qu’artiste, on est souvent isolé, on travaille souvent de façon solitaire. Ce rendez-vous théâtral est une belle opportunité de mener des réflexions en commun et de mutualiser les moyens de nos compagnies : moyens artistiques, humains, logistiques… Et puis, le fait de se retrouver à plusieurs nous donne soudainement plus d’élan, plus d’audace. Je ne suis pas certain que, seul, j’aurais eu le courage de mettre en scène une pièce d’un auteur vivant peu connu (ndlr : Ludovic Longelin).
Alain Batis : Ce projet s’est construit sur une correspondance très intime entre nos conceptions respectives du théâtre. Pour chacun d’entre nous, la dimension populaire du théâtre est essentielle. Nous tenons tous les trois à placer le public au centre de nos préoccupations, tant dans le choix des œuvres, que dans la manière de partager, chaque soir, la représentation. Nous tenons ainsi à ce que ce festival passe par une forme de convivialité, un sens de l’accueil, qu’il soit l’occasion de partager des moments de parole avec les spectateurs, avant et après les spectacles.
Après le métissage en 2007, cette deuxième édition s’organise autour du thème de la transmission…
St. G. : Oui, cette année, on retrouve beaucoup de textes sur la transmission, sur les rapports parents/enfants, la quête des origines…

J’ai moi-même passé commande d’une pièce sur ce thème-là à Ludovic Longelin, l’un des deux auteurs associés à Un automne à tisser. Il a écrit …Alias le bonheur, que je mettrai en scène. La notion de transmission est quelque chose qui nous tient particulièrement à cœur. C’est aussi la raison pour laquelle nous tenions à inviter d’autres compagnies, d’autres créateurs à participer à cette manifestation. La transmission, c’est aussi cela : savoir ouvrir la porte aux autres pour partager un outil de travail.
A. B. : Notre programmation a vraiment été élaborée dans un souci d’échange et d’ouverture. Avec l’idée de pouvoir donner carte blanche à des artistes que nous connaissons bien, auxquels nous faisons intimement confiance.
J-C. P. : Lorsque j’étais directeur du Théâtre du Campagnol, j’ai toujours pensé qu’il était de mon devoir d’accueillir de jeunes créateurs et de les aider à faire leurs débuts. Aujourd’hui, voir Stanislas — qui a réalisé sa première mise en scène dans mon théâtre — donner à son tour l’opportunité à des jeunes artistes de présenter leur travail est, pour moi, une grande satisfaction.
Des critères esthétiques précis ont-ils déterminé vos choix de programmation ?
St. G. : Non, ce qui est essentiel pour nous, c’est d’offrir au public la possibilité de se confronter à une culture plurielle, ceci par le biais d’esthétiques parfois très différentes.
A. B. : A travers tous ces univers artistiques se dessine, cependant, un point de liaison très important : la volonté de faire un théâtre pour tous, le désir de donner à voir, à entendre, à ressentir un travail exigeant mais partageable par tous les publics. Nous souhaitons que la porte d’accès aux spectateurs reste toujours large et ouverte.
J-C. P. : Il est en effet terrible de se rendre compte que l’on est emprisonné dans une catégorie de public précise, spécialisée. Pour éviter qu’Un automne à tisser ne se retrouve dans cette position, nous avons veillé à favoriser au maximum la richesse et la diversité des esthétiques, des propositions.
