Après La Dame de chez Maxim et L’Hôtel du Libre-Echange (sacré nom pour un hôtel !), Alain Françon crée Du Mariage au divorce, cycle de quatre pièces en un acte de Georges Feydeau, présenté en deux spectacles : On purge Bébé et Feu la mère de Madame pour l’un, Léonie est en avance ou Le Mal joli et « Mais n’te promène donc pas toute nue ! » pour l’autre. Le metteur en scène aime le théâtre de Feydeau, selon lui un auteur majeur, « profondément dadaïste, presque surréaliste », jouant avec la limite au point d’aller très loin vis-à-vis des normes sociales ou des “conventions libidinales », et libérant au passage quelques éclats d’inconscient.
Observation féroce
Ces courtes pièces ont été écrites alors que le mariage de Feydeau était en train de se détériorer, et le metteur en scène y décèle une tonalité plus cruelle qu’auparavant. Une intransigeante critique sociale et une observation féroce des comportements humains s’expriment à travers cette écriture brusque et tranchante, qui force les personnages à s’engouffrer à fond et à toute allure dans les situations les plus extravagantes et les plus scabreuses. Ce théâtre exige énormément de qualités de la part des acteurs, qu’Alain Françon résume ainsi : « crédulité, mobilité, inconscience et exagération ». Tout un art ! Des comédiens aguerris, Anne Benoît, Philippe Dusquesne, Eric Elmosnino, Judith Henry, Julie Pilod, Gilles Privat, Régis Royer et Dominique Valadié se lancent dans l’aventure et donnent vie à ces couples querelleurs et délirants, à ce petit microcosme en plein déraillement. Malentendus, mensonges, rebondissements, quiproquos génèrent confusion, renversement des valeurs, folie… et fous rires !
