Après s’être plongée dans Le Capital de Karl Marx, une riche américaine décide de partir à la découverte du monde. Confrontée à la brutalité de la misère, cette femme est peu à peu écartelée entre la réalité de ce qu’elle voit et les valeurs qui étaient jusque-là les siennes. « Fièvre parle de l’inégalité économique, explique l’auteur américain Wallace Shawn, de ce paysage choquant que l’on traverse tous chaque jour et que la majorité ne voit plus. » A quel changement aspire-t-on vraiment ? Que signifient distribution du progrès, renoncement, sacrifice ? A travers toutes sortes de mises en perspective, toutes sortes de questionnements, cette fable sarcastique tente d’énoncer l’évidence pour que l’évidence, tout à coup, nous saute aux yeux. Un texte que Lars Norén a choisi de mettre en scène non seulement parce qu’il le trouve « beau, majeur, terrifiant », mais parce qu’il pense « qu’il nous est indispensable ».
