Conçue par le fondateur du Festival Off d’Avignon comme une variation sur Le Cid, Fin de journée place face-à-face deux vieux acteurs qui n’ont plus rien à faire. Alors que elle (Maryvonne Schiltz) profite de ce temps de retraite et de loisirs, lui (Jean-Claude Drouot) est rongé par l’inactivité. Il n’a qu’une chose en tête : jouer Le Cid de Corneille. « Fin de journée n’est pas un aboutissement, un juste équilibre enfin atteint, prévient Patrick Pelloquet. C’est une réflexion en marche, un ressassement créatif, une bataille avec la pensée, un questionnement permanent sur le rôle du théâtre, de l’auteur et de l’interprète. » Animé par une volonté de rassemblement et de partage, le metteur en scène a souhaité concevoir un projet « joyeux et poétique », « clairvoyant et ambitieux ». Un projet nourri de « l’exigence et de l’appétit de théâtre » dont faisait preuve l’ancien directeur du Théâtre des Carmes, disparu durant l’édition 2009 du festival d’Avignon.
