Théâtre de Suresnes Jean Vilar / Chor. Andrew Skeels
Lorsqu’Olivier Meyer, directeur du théâtre Jean Vilar, confia à Andrew Skeels l’ouverture de Suresnes cités danse en 2016, l’Américain installé à Montréal était en France un parfait inconnu. Ce pari audacieux fut un pari réussi puisque sa pièce Street dance club, inspirée des années 1920 et du célébrissime Cotton club, fut un véritable succès et tourne encore aujourd’hui. Devenu un fidèle du festival – il y présentait l’année dernière Fleeting, poétique forme courte pour un couple de danseurs contemporains -, il revient cette année clore la 26ème édition avec Finding Now, une nouvelle création pour cinq interprètes.
Musique baroque et énergie hip-hop
Danseur de hip-hop dans ses très jeunes années puis formé au jazz et claquettes avant de se consacrer au classique et d’être embauché comme soliste par les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Adrew Skeels a expérimenté et sait manier tous les styles. Comme Hervieu et Montalvo, notamment, l’ont fait avec bonheur avant lui, il propose avec Finding Now de marier musiques baroques et danses urbaines. Ode à l’instant présent, à l’éphémère, au geste qui surgit comme un élan vital, ce nouvel opus confronte l’écriture sophistiquée et délicate du chorégraphe américain et la virtuosité de deux danseuses et trois danseurs hip-hop charismatiques.
