L’histoire tient en quelques phrases : en mars 2003, à la veille de l’offensive en Irak des forces américano-britanniques, que le Japon rejoint pour la première fois depuis 1945, Minobe et Yukki, 25 ans approximatifs, se rencontrent lors d’un concert et s’enferment quatre jours dans un « Love Hotel » de Shibuya, quartier animé de Tokyo. Tandis qu’une manifestation proteste contre la guerre, eux restent enfermés… Ils se sépareront sans même connaître leur prénom. Affaire presque banale donc, rapportée à plusieurs voix et autant de points de vue. Sauf qu’imperceptiblement le récit glisse de l’un à l’autre des sept comédiens – cinq garçons et deux filles, qui parfois se glissent dans un personnage, empruntent une identité, temporairement. Sauf que les corps démentent la parole, comme s’ils étaient progressivement contaminés par des images sous-jacentes.
Une réalité en porte-à-faux
Une parole dégurgitée à flots continus, noyée dans le tourbillon des mots, qui s’accumulent, s’entassent, hésitent et repartent à la charge comme pour assaillir une pensée qui se délite toujours. Parfois s’égare. Toshiki Okada, jeune auteur et metteur en scène japonais reconnaît volontiers l’influence de Brecht et de son aîné Oriza Hirata sur sa démarche. Il tricote minutieusement un « japonais oral hyperréaliste », très proche du phrasé inarticulé des jeunes tokyoïtes. Le langage, morcelé, dilué dans un entrelacs de phrases abandonnées aussitôt que commencées, ne trouve de signification que dans la globalité. Surtout, il est en permanence dédit par le corps : les gestes, prélevés dans l’anodin des attitudes, précisément stylisés et agencés en une partition parallèle, laissent échapper l’inconscient sous le verbe et trahissent le mal être au sein d’une société très codifiée où la violence n’éclate pas en public mais est intériorisée et se retourne contre les individus. S’appuyant sur une remarquable maîtrise de la direction d’acteurs, Toshiki Okada montre une réalité en porte-à-faux, une génération désorientée, sans perspective, dépassée par les événements, littéralement.
