Floating Flowers s’inspire d’une tradition religieuse taïwanaise qui a lieu lors du Ghost Festival, une des cérémonies bouddhistes les plus importantes. Une fête des lumières parmi les plus belles et les plus populaires célébrée près des cours d’eau et des lacs. Les gens fabriquent de minuscules bateaux de feuilles de bananier contenant une bougie allumée, symboles de vies qui filent au gré de l’eau laissant le passé derrière eux. L’eau est au coeur de cette pièce, comme elle est au coeur des croyances en Asie où chacun sait que si elle féconde la terre, son pouvoir de destruction peut être terrible. À la suite du décès de son père, le chorégraphe taïwanais Tsai Po-Cheng perd toute foi dans les rituels de son enfance. Mais une photo de la fête des lumières libère ses souvenirs. Et, réalisant à quel point la vie peut être éphémère et flottante, il crée cette pièce. Avec sa gestuelle fluide et vaporeuse, Floating Flowers joue de l’illusion et du cycle des métamorphoses, non sans humour !
