Après Le Roi Singe, en 2007, la troupe de l’Opéra du Sichuan de Chengdu revient aujourd’hui en Europe avec Flowers in the mirror, un roman allégorique et onirique de l’écrivain Li Ju Chen (1763-1830). Peu connue en France, cette fable est considérée, en Chine, comme l’un des grands classiques de la littérature de la dynastie Qing (1644-1911). Ecrit en 1828, Flowers in the mirror relate l’exil parmi les mortels d’une déesse, la fée des Cent Fleurs, sorte de haute autorité du royaume céleste condamnée à se réincarner en être humain pour avoir failli à la mission qui était la sienne : veiller à ce que toutes les espèces de fleurs éclosent suivant le cycle établi des saisons. Ainsi devenue la fille du lettré Tang Ao, l’ancienne fée décide de s’instruire et de dépasser les entraves faites aux femmes pour tenter de reconquérir, avec l’aide de celui qui est devenu son père, son immortalité perdue. A travers cette épopée pleine de fantaisie, Li Ju Chen nous transporte dans toutes sortes de territoires imaginaires, des territoires peuplés de créatures et de peuples fabuleux.
Une ballade à travers les contrées exotiques de l’Opéra chinois
Des fleurs qui s’ouvrent en plein hiver, un pays dans lequel les femmes ont le pouvoir sur les hommes, des êtres à deux visages, un singe blanc expert en kung-fu, des plantes qui permettent de voler, un sage qui décide de s’écarter du monde pour vivre en accord avec l’ordre de la nature… Mettant en avant des positions proches de la philosophie taoïste et des mouvements d’émancipation féminine, ce spectacle conçu comme un pont entre la culture chinoise et la culture française fait se rejoindre, sur scène, l’art ancestral de l’Opéra du Sichuan et le regard contemporain de Charles Tordjman et de son fils Vincent. Les deux co-metteurs en scène associent en effet lasers, projections vidéo et musique électronique aux éléments traditionnels d’une forme dramatique existant depuis le XIVème siècle (chants, danses, jeux de masques, cracheurs de feu, passes d’épée…). Echappée fantasmagorique au sein de la culture sichuanaise, Flowers in the mirror est l’occasion de découvrir des artistes d’une grande technicité. Des artistes composant un divertissement qui restera en mémoire comme un joli moment d’exotisme.
