José Navas et Martin Bélanger sont les deux figures phares qui structurent ce focus. José Navas, originaire du Vénézuela, s’est tout d’abord illustré sur la scène internationale avant de se poser au Québec il y a plus de vingt ans. Aujourd’hui, il présente à Vanves deux pièces de 2008, reflet de son ambitieuse inclinaison à chorégraphier pour un nombre important de danseurs, et de son désir plus récent de renouer avec le solo. Deux facettes qui traduisent la même volonté d’emmener la danse vers une belle abstraction, dans la recherche portée sur la « pureté » du mouvement. Une quête particulièrement visible dans S, pièce pour huit danseurs que révèle la musique de Satie et que le chorégraphe compare à des Stradivarius. A l’inverse, Miniatures se resserre autour de la figure de José Navas lui-même. Il y parle d’amour, de ses amours, se dévoilant dans sept séquences en solo sur un éventail de musiques allant de Bach à Maria Grever, compositrice mexicaine. D’une certaine façon, son compatriote Martin Bélanger raconte lui aussi son histoire. Inspiré par la forme de poésie orale américaine du spoken word, il brouille les pistes en mêlant parole et corps dans un même élan, tendus vers une autre forme de représentation, vers une autre théâtralité.
Le retour de Danièle Desnoyers
Avec la berlinoise Isabelle Shad, Martin Bélanger se fraye un chemin vers une forme plus performative : Leistung fait partie de la série des Good Work, auxquels se sont déjà frottés les danseurs Benoît Lachambre, Anna Hedman et Nuno Bizarro. Ici, les deux performers se confrontent à l’idée même de la représentation, et d’un éventuel propos à l’origine de leur venue. De paroles en actes, ils déconstruisent le spectacle en donnant à voir et à penser ce qui est absent. Dans une esthétique tout à fait éloignée, Danièle Desnoyers envisage la danse dans un lien très étroit avec son environnement visuel et avec le son. Il y a plus de dix ans, Concerto Grosso pour corps et surface métallique avait fait sensation. Aujourd’hui, c’est avec l’artiste visuelle Manon de Pauw qu’elle a construit le projet Là où je vis. Celle-ci, présente sur scène pour un travail projeté en direct, interagit avec les cinq danseurs porteurs de leurs propres histoires, au gré des modulations de l’espace et du son.
