« Fort comme un bout de l’effort à faire pour tenir » dit l’auteur Catherine Anne. L’effort d’un artiste, un pianiste concertiste de renom qui revient après vingt ans d’exil jouer dans son village natal qui fut anéanti par un bombardement lorsqu’il était enfant. Il avait alors perdu sa mère, et c’est le travail au piano qui lui a permis de « transformer la douleur, la peine, la difficulté, la pesanteur en musique ». Aujourd’hui, il ne reconnaît plus rien, et ne peut éviter une agitation tangible suscitée par les soubresauts de sa mémoire. Un piano quart de queue au sommet d’une colline au milieu des herbes hautes pour un drôle de concert en plein air, et soudain la parole qui se lâche, qui libère les souvenirs refoulés, les fantômes du passé, les divagations troubles, les fulgurances du dernier soir de son enfance. Il s’adresse à un personnage silencieux et mystérieux. Cette création sensible et ouverte sur de multiples possibilités est d’abord née de la rencontre de la metteur en scène Pascale Daniel-Lacombe du Théâtre du Rivage et du comédien et musicien Pascal Sangla, qui se connaissent très bien, et ont voulu que s’écrive une pièce monologue sur le thème de l’effort. Catherine Anne a répondu à leur proposition. « Nous sommes en temps et en espace réels, mais surtout en temps et espace intimes », dit la metteur en scène, qui cherche dans son travail « ce petit endroit à atteindre, cet état peu concret entre le réel et la fantasmagorie ».
