Que ce soit dans ses albums musicaux, dans son roman Ecoute la ville tomber ou dans ses poèmes, Kate Tempest pose un regard acéré sur son époque dans une écriture percussive et lyrique. Sa pièce Fracassés, publiée en France chez L’Arche éditeur, n’y échappe pas, qui dresse le portrait de trois jeunes gens déboussolés. Ted, Danny et Charlotte décident de se retrouver à l’occasion du dixième anniversaire de la mort de leur ami commun, et de trouver une issue à leur situation précaire. Pour Gabriel Dufay, le propos de la pièce « résonne particulièrement avec ce que nous vivons tous aujourd’hui. Rêve fracassés, aliénation généralisée, solidarité ébréchée, nécessité de changer sans savoir comment faire ». Séduit par « la puissance de ce texte qui se révèle un coup de maître, frappant par la singularité de son écriture, vive et percutante, imprégnée de la poésie et de la rythmique du rap », il signe une mise en scène où se mêlent théâtre, électro, vidéo et danse pour restituer l’énergie tellurique de la langue de Kate Tempest.
