Théâtre La Tempête / de Jean-Luc Lagarce / adaptation et mes Jean-Pierre Garnier
Quelques mois avant d’être emporté par le sida en 1995, Jean-Luc Lagarce écrit Le Pays lointain, où un homme, Louis, revient dans sa famille pour dire qu’il va mourir. Il ne dira rien de sa mort programmée, mais ce retour vers les siens et vers soi remue le passé et les souvenirs, convoque les vivants et les morts alors même qu’approche la fin inéluctable. La famille, les amis, les amours – les éphémères comme ceux d’une vie – : c’est le moment des retrouvailles, et les figures de Lagarce se déploient au cœur de l’intime, dans une réelle et fugace proximité. Jean-Pierre Garnier croise la pièce – qu’il a élaguée de moitié environ – et des extraits du journal que Jean-Luc Lagarce a régulièrement tenu de 1977 jusqu’à sa mort. « Nous avons pris le parti d’une parole droite, nette, d’une somme infinie d’idées furtives, de pensées courtes. » confie le metteur en scène. Il a voulu que de jeunes acteurs pas encore trentenaires s’emparent de cette parole en spirale, des acteurs d’une nouvelle génération, qui ont toute leur vie à construire.
