Après avoir recréé votre première pièce La Chanson, sous le titre La Chanson [reboot], vous continuez de faire vivre le répertoire de votre compagnie en reprenant France-fantôme, créé en 2017. Quelle place occupe cette pièce dans l’histoire de La Femme coupée en deux ?
Tiphaine Raffier : Il s’agit pour moi de la vraie première pièce de la compagnie. C’est avec France-fantôme que La Femme coupée en deux se structure de manière à pouvoir faire tourner ses créations, avec l’arrivée au sein de l’équipe de notre administratrice. Je commence aussi sur ce spectacle à travailler avec la scénographe Hélène Jourdan, avec qui le travail est si riche qu’elle aussi rejoint la compagnie. En matière d’écriture aussi, France-fantôme est pour moi un tournant. Cinq ans après sa création, je l’assume encore pleinement, avec joie.
Cette pièce s’ancre dans un univers dystopique appelé « 9ème révolution scopique ». Pourquoi avoir alors voulu vous aventurer dans un genre peu exploré au théâtre ?
T.R. : La science-fiction m’est apparue comme un espace de grande liberté. Inventer un monde, avec un nouveau rapport au capitalisme, au religieux, à la culture était pour moi une manière de mettre d’emblée le théâtre au travail. En même temps que l’intrigue, il fallait créer une forme capable de faire de la science-fiction proprement théâtrale.

Vous avez opté pour une esthétique très sobre, avec très peu de nouvelles technologies. À l’exception de la vidéo, qui tient une place centrale dans votre pièce.
T.R. : En ayant largement recours aux nouvelles technologies, j’aurais encouru le risque de voir France-fantôme vieillir avant l’heure. De plus, je voulais une science-fiction poisseuse, avec des gens en pulls en laine, afin que ce genre nous ramène aux sentiments humains. Quant à la vidéo, son importance tient au fait qu’elle s’inscrit dans un univers iconoclaste, où la représentation du visage humain est interdite. Lorsqu’un visage est enfin filmé dans la pièce, on sent toute la force qu’a ce geste.
Hormis son iconoclasme, pourriez-vous nous décrire les grands traits de votre France futuriste ?
T.R. : C’est une ère qui englobe la technologie et le culturel. À la fois esthétique et politique, elle pose la question de la connaissance d’une manière très aiguë, car grâce à une machine du nom de « Démémoriel », chacun peut « décharger sa mémoire ». C’est grâce à cette machine que l’héroïne, qui a perdu brutalement son mari, peut espérer le retrouver en partie. Si France-fantôme tient de la science-fiction, elle est pour moi avant tout une pièce romantique, une histoire d’amour. Elle est aussi nourrie de nombreuses lectures sur l’exil. Dans « science-fiction », on entend souvent science froide. Mais France-fantôme est aussi pleine de sciences dites « chaudes », pleine de réflexions sur l’humain et ses sociétés contemporaines.
