Encore mal connu du public mélomane et des compositeurs, cet instrument moderne a vu le jour en Suisse il y a une vingtaine d’années. Le « hang » – le mot signifie « main » en dialecte bernois – réalise une sorte de synthèse riche d’incroyables possibilités sonores entre de nombreux instruments de percussion du monde entier comme le gong, le gamelan, la scie musicale ou la cloche. Francesco Agnello s’est pris de passion pour cet instrument qui a fait revenir ce lauréat du Prix Villa Médicis à ses premières amours musicales, après de longues années sur les scènes de théâtre, en particulier auprès de Peter Brook ou de Pippo Delbono. Sa rencontre avec le hang fut une révélation : « Cet instrument procure des vibrations qui touchent le sensible, l’imaginaire et qui apporte grâce aux harmoniques une ouverture plus grande aux sens. Le touché, le doigté et la résonnance de l’instrument nous amènent plus facilement que les autres instruments à percussion dans ce monde du sensible. », confie-t-il. Improvisations et compositions originales sont au programme de cette série de récitals parisiens.
