Né à Oran, Franck Amsallem a grandi à Nice, est passé par Boston (et le Berklee College) avant de vivre l’essentiel de sa vie de musicien entre New York et Paris où il s’est imposé en vingt ans comme l’un des pianistes qui comptent. Mais Amsallem, artiste authentique et libre, amoureux transi des mélodies qui remuent l’âme, cachait un secret : son art de chanteur. Il le révèle dans un nouvel album magnifique, « Amsallem Sings », produit par Yvinek. « Les instrumentistes chanteurs ne chantent pas comme de simples chanteurs. Avec leur capacité à aller de front sur l’essentiel, ils dénichent dans les arcanes de la mélodie des recoins insoupçonnés. Amsallem a retenu des grands qu’il a côtoyés durant ses années d’exil outre-Atlantique la grande leçon de l’imperfection, de la maîtrise qui sait à chaque instant se faire oublier pour faire place au cœur des choses, à ce petit espace d’incertitude qui sépare le musicien de l’artiste ». Reste à écouter Franck Amsalem, chanteur-musicien seul avec son piano, sa voix et des chansons qui font aimer la vie, signées Jerome Kern, Harold Harlen, Johnny Mercer ou Cole Porter, ou en trio avec Sylvain Romano (cbasse) et Karl Jannuska (batterie).
