Quelques semaines à peine après l’avoir écouté, « savouré » serait plus juste, en solo en concert (c’était en décembre au Studio de l’Ermitage), et au disque avec la musique de « La leçon des jours », le vibraphoniste et ex-directeur musical de l’Orchestre National de Jazz revient avec un nouveau projet. « Cela fait maintenant une quinzaine d’années que j’ai créé un orchestre, pas trop grand, juste ce qu’il faut pour accueillir mes amis musiciens avec lesquels j’ai grandi, espéré, transpiré, douté, mais avec qui j’ai partagé toutes les grandes étapes de ma vie d’artiste. 7 musiciens, 7 parcours, 7 rencontres, 7 façons de jouer, 7 solistes mais une seule volonté de servir une idée, un collectif, une utopie ; celle de rester ensemble encore longtemps et de défendre ce que l’on aime tant : jouer, improviser, swinguer, pulser, créer des sons, des grooves, surprendre, bref, faire la musique ! » confie Frank Tortiller. Sa musique se décline sous le titre « 7 chemins » en 7 mini-concertos destinés à Patrice Héral (batterie, électronique), Yves Torchinsky (contrebasse), Matthieu Vial-Collet (guitare), Matthieu Michel (trompette, bugle), Jean Gobinet (trompette, bugle), Anthony Caillet (euphonium, bugle) et Jean-Louis Pommier (trombone).
