Cela sonne comme un retour aux sources pour celui qui dirigea il y a peu l’Orchestre National de Jazz. Car avant d’en arriver là, le vibraphoniste Franck Tortiller s’est fait la main auprès de son père dans les bals populaires. C’est ainsi qu’il s’est composé un répertoire tout spécialement pour l’occasion, entre originaux de sa plume ou de la main de ses partenaires et reprises de classiques du genre, dont « Douce Joie » de Gus Viseur et « Impasse des vertus » de Tony Murena. Si le bal musette et l’accordéon font belles figures dans ce programme, il s’agit aussi de creuser un sillon au-delà de l’horizon hexagonal. Le Mexique et l’Asie sont ainsi évoqués dans ce panorama de la valse à trois temps, au travers de compositions respectivement signées par le vibraphoniste Vincent Limouzin et par le tubiste Michel Marre. Deux membres éminents d’une équipe versée dans le domaine de l’improvisation la plus ouverte. D’autant qu’il s’agit avant tout de ne pas s’en tenir à la simple figure de style, mais bel et bien d’en prendre le prétexte pour s’adonner à de longues échappées.
