Né en 2005 de l’envie du pianiste d’élaborer une musique qui réponde au pouvoir des images du réalisateur russe Andreï Tarkovski, le quartet de François Couturier est devenu, sous le nom du cinéaste, l’espace d’un groupe qui cultive une musique de chambre contemporaine, minimaliste et expressive, crépusculaire et lente. Sous le titre de « Nuit blanche » (ECM), et comme pour restituer l’oxymore contenu dans l’expression, leur dernier (et troisième) album dessine des paysages en demi-teinte, empreints de nostalgie, dont la touchante délicatesse tient aux associations instrumentales inattendues du violoncelle d’Anja Lechner, avec l’accordéon de Jean-Louis Matinier, et du saxophone soprano de Jean-Marc Larché.
