En intitulant son œuvre François d’Assise et non pas Saint François, Joseph Delteil (1894-1978) a voulu signifier que tout homme peut devenir François d’Assise. Que cette personnalité née au XIIème siècle est aussi de notre temps, qu’elle porte l’étendard des combats (écologistes, altermondialistes…) de notre époque. Ecrit « dans une folle émotion », « tantôt en criant de joie, tantôt en ruisselant de larmes », ce texte est aujourd’hui investi par Robert Bouvier sur la scène du Théâtre Artistic Athévains. Dirigé par Adel Hakim, le comédien donne chair à une écriture foisonnante, sensuelle, qui traverse un personnage en rupture avec l’égoïsme et la petitesse des ses semblables. Un personnage qui s’émerveille devant la nature comme Adel Hakim souhaiterait que le public s’émerveille devant les effets « simples et pauvres » du théâtre qu’il a convoqué pour donner naissance à ce « moment de vie fou et joyeux ».
