Après sa brillante adaptation à la scène (trois fois nominée aux Molières), pour le comédien Jean-François Balmer, du court et génial roman Novecento d’Alessandro Barrico, Frank Cassenti fait revivre sur scène la personnalité et la musique de Thelonious Monk, véritable génie du be bop, mais aussi personnage magnétique et étrange au look hors du temps et aux silences fascinants dans la vie comme dans sa musique. Le metteur en scène, également narrateur du spectacle, s’empare en les adaptant d’extraits du livre « But beautiful » de Geoff Dyer, exceptionnelle galerie de portraits (en textes et images) de grands maîtres du jazz (dont Monk, évidemment). Il convie sur scène le pianiste Ronnie Lynn Patterson et le contrebassiste Jean-Jacques Avenel, parfaitement en phase avec le projet.
