Le nom de votre compagnie, AsaNIsiMAsa, est tiré de 8 et demi, de Fellini. Un hommage ?
AsaNIsiMAsa est une formule magique, qui renvoie à l’enfance du personnage du film. Fellini, que j’ai découvert à 15 ans, m’a beaucoup marqué, pour son parcours de cinéaste, qui commence dans la veine du néoréalisme italien et évolue vers des performances quasi-plastiques, mais aussi pour sa vision ambiguë du spectacle, à la fois fascinée et écœurée par la société du spectacle naissante à son époque.
Le monde fictif de Nous étions jeunes alors prend des teintes sombres, presque apocalyptiques. Est-ce votre vision de l’avenir ?
J’avais envie de travailler sur la littérature d’anticipation, très peu abordée au théâtre sauf par Edward Bond. Quitte à jouer avec les clichés du genre. Le monde dépeint ici flirte avec la catastrophe, mais vise surtout à provoquer chez le spectateur des échos avec notre réalité, à le rendre actif par rapport à cette vision. La fiction introduit une distance qui permet justement ce regard critique.
On retrouve des thématiques récurrentes chez vous, notamment la perte de l’identité, les frontières floues entre réel et fiction. En quoi résonnent-elles avec notre époque ?
De pièce en pièce, ces questions reviennent en effet, tout comme celle de la paranoïa, des figures de l’ennemi, des mécanismes de la mémoire, de l’identification à la figure de la star ou encore de la recherche d’une clandestinité volontaire. Loin d’apporter des réponses, j’essaie de restituer la complexité de ces notions, d’échapper à l’univocité ou au procès militant, de dessiner un voyage initiatique. Au cours de leur périple, les personnages passent ainsi par plusieurs attitudes face aux situations qu’ils traversent : fuite, détournement, enfermement, affrontement… Autant de postures qui participent de leur apprentissage du monde. Ce qui m’intéresse est de donner à réfléchir sur la complexité de notre réalité.
Vous développez ici une forme hybride de « théâtre-récit ».
Cette forme composite tient à la fois du monologue théâtral, du poème et du récit. L’écriture allie le texte, les images et la musique, qui tous trois portent la narration. Ce mode d’écriture, que j’ai déjà expérimenté dans Des heures entières avant l’exil, ma précédente pièce, m’a ouvert de nouveaux champs poétiques, une autre façon d’aborder l’épopée.
Comment conjuguez-vous en scène ces trois partitions ?
Sur le plateau, cerné par des écrans, trois acteurs dialoguent avec trois musiciens, qui s’inscrivent dans la respiration du texte. Les images tantôt donnent en arrière-plan les lieux de l’action, tantôt forment un second plan, reflet de l’inconscient, ou bien prennent le relai du récit. Les partitions se calent ainsi, en direct.
