Si en France, les ensembles sur instruments anciens se sont souvent constitués autour d’un chef – de William Christie à Marc Minkowski –, la situation s’avère bien différente en Allemagne. Proches du collectif, le Concerto Köln ou l’Akademie für Alte Musik fonctionnent sans baguette, guidés seulement par leur violon solo. Le Freiburger Barockorchester participe d’un même esprit, d’où un dynamisme chambriste exceptionnel. Pour leur concert à la Cité de la musique, les musiciens et leur Konzertmeister Petra Müllejans interprèteront deux symphonies de Haydn quasiment jamais jouées : la 74ème et la 78ème. Ils donneront par ailleurs la réplique au pianofortiste Andreas Staier dans le 27ème Concerto de Mozart. Une rencontre peu évidente, comme l’a montré un récent enregistrement Haydn (Harmonia Mundi), où l’élégance racée du soliste s’alliait parfois difficilement à l’énergie brute de l’orchestre. En fin de programme, on notera une curiosité à ne pas manquer : les Variations sur les Folies d’Espagne écrites par Antonio Salieri, véritable bouillonnement de couleurs et de rythmes.
