L’angoisse de la mort tient à la disparition irrémédiable de l’être cher : « Dans quelque temps, on aura perdu le son de sa voix ; on aura du mal à retrouver ses traits. » (Michelle Perrot). Contre l’évidence fatale se bat le héros épique de la farce burlesque de Funérailles d’hiver de Hanokh Levin. En effet, Latshek Bobitshek (Eddy Letexier) se tient au pied du lit maternel dans la chambre de deuil. Mère (Christine Millet) et fils évoquent les obsèques à venir avec la famille restreinte – le cousin (Patrick Zimmermann), la cousine autoritaire (Christine Murillo) et leur fille (Fanny Germond), tous occupés à préparer les noces du lendemain. « Crois-moi, ils ne renonceront pas à une salle de réception bien chauffée avec gigot et cognac, pour un cimetière pluvieux avec petite vieille et trépas », dit l’agonisante. L’Ange de la mort (Bruno Vincent) passe, le buste nu incliné et le bras levé dans les hauteurs du cadre, tel un détail de tableau de maître de la Renaissance italienne. L’image religieuse, à la fois austère et audacieuse du metteur en scène Laurent Pelly, est forte. S’ensuit, dans un tempo d’enfer, une comédie grinçante, le cauchemar de l’orphelin qui affronte deux cérémonies familiales concurrentes à honorer simultanément, comme s’il fallait soumettre des monstres d’égoïsme et d’oubli, à un choix impossible.
Une comédie amère
D’abord, les funérailles, ensuite les épousailles. Mais aux antipodes de la cérémonie funèbre, reste en attente le caractère festif de la noce qui se traduit par des dépenses exceptionnelles. Fuyant son devoir, cette famille tonitruante digne de Feydeau se réfugie sur la plage. Deux joggers (Denis Rey et Olivier Jeannelle) courent sportivement pour retarder encore le jour de la Mort. La cousine réplique : « Aujourd’hui, cette lumière n’appartient qu’à nous, tout comme la salle de réception, l’orchestre, les fleurs, les invités et les poulets rôtis ». Un voisin isolé (Jean-Philippe Salério) sera des funérailles. La vision scénique déploie sur le plateau l’immensité d’un décor somptueux des années 80, escalier grandiose de maison, brumes nocturnes, plage vide et mur anti-marées, montagnes blanches de l’Himalaya et enfin, salle éblouissante de banquet. Les personnages d’allure beckettienne sont déshumanisés, des marionnettes miniaturisées. Une comédie amère sur la condition humaine désenchantée, qu’on soit en famille, en couple ou en solitaire. Le spectacle emporte l’adhésion, vérifiant cet axiome que, « si dans le rêve ça va mal, dans la réalité c’est encore pire». Une fresque cadencée et griffée d’angoisse.
