Cette Marseillaise – née Gabrielle Caire en 1881 et morte 39 ans plus tard à Paris – a connu très tôt dans sa brève et fulgurante carrière une véritable renommée mondiale, du Moulin Rouge au Casino de Paris jusqu’à la conquête de Londres et des Etats-Unis. Partout, ses tenues extravagantes, sa vie personnelle agitée de femme libre (une liaison avec le roi du Portugal Manuel de Bragance provoqua le scandale !), et avant tout son incroyable talent firent merveille. Gaby Deslys peut et doit être considérée comme la première star du music-hall, dont l’originalité influença directement Mistinguett et Mae West. Le ténor Jean-Christophe Born a eu la très jolie idée de s’intéresser à cette artiste oubliée et de lui consacrer un spectacle. Une revue musicale impeccablement réalisée où s’enchaînent avec brio extraits d’opérettes, cakewalks et ragtimes, servie par trois interprètes irréprochables : la brillante soprano Clémentine Decouture, artiste « Génération Spedidam », dans le rôle de Gaby, Jean-Christophe Born incarnant Harry Pilcer, un jeune danseur américain, fidèle partenaire de la star, et le pianiste Mark Nadler désigné « Performer of the year 2015 » à Broadway qui a signé, en expert, l’adaptation de tout le répertoire.
